Some History

The history of IMP dates back to the pre-war period, when the Central Laboratory of the State Armament Manufacture has been established, as a precursor of the present Institute. The activity of this Laboratory has been focused on research and development of weapons and ammunition as well as selected civil technologies. The starting point of the Institute of Precision Mechanics has been dated since 1945. Immediately, after the Second World War the main research has been still carried out on the armament technologies. Beginning from 60's, the activity of IMP has been turned out to heat treatment and protective coatings, mainly for civil applications. The professional efforts of IMP comprises of R&D, designing and practical applications. The technologies elaborated at IMP have been applied in thousands of companies over the country, numerous of them also in foreign countries. The examples of outstanding achievements have been listed. The Institute of Precision Mechanics and staff have been awarded and nominated by different presigious governmental organizations and scientific associations.

  1. Production technology and equipment for ion nitriding of machine elements and devices; Improvement of the lifetime by 100 up to 200%, with low labour and energy cost, without hazard of environmental pollution.
  2. Fluidized bed heat- and thermochemical treatment of machine elements and tools, hardening, tempering, nitriding, carbonitriding, nitrocarburizing, oxy-nitriding, bluening and others (low investment and operating costs, work safety, no environmental pollution, rapid heating of the charge, uniform temperature, very short auxilary time of operation, fast obtaining of diffusion cases, short heat up time of the furnaces, easy and fast change of treatment type).
  3. Economical, safe for environment electroplating procedures: zinc plating, gold plating, silver plating and others (high quality plating, with reduced consumption of raw materials).
  4. Modernization of water and waste management systems in the planting shops(reduction of water consumption down to 20 l/m2 of coating, metal recovery above 80%).
  5. Production technology and equipment for dip-hot aluminizing ALUZAN - high quality aluminium coatings at low power consumption, environmental friendly production technology for aluminizing of ferrous alloy products to protect them against corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures and action of sulphuric, carburising, nitriding and hydrogenous atmospheres; furnaces with ceramic tanks up to 7 meters long, electrically heated by a new very economical system which secures 95% efficiency.
  6. Neutral coagulation agent K83 for coagulation, separation and reuse of waste painting materils in the water curtain spray painting booths (circulating water needs no purification when exchanged).
